Sigiriya Lion Rock Climb

Overview

Climbing Sigiriya Lion Rock is one of the most popular things to do in Sigiriya and a highlight of any trip to Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle. Rising 200 metres above the surrounding countryside, this ancient rock fortress was built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As you make your way to the top, you’ll pass beautiful water gardens, the famous Mirror Wall, ancient frescoes, and the giant Lion’s Paws. The climb is rewarded with incredible views and a fascinating glimpse into Sri Lanka’s history. We recommend visiting early in the morning for cooler temperatures and fewer crowds, or in the late afternoon when the light is perfect for photos
